Barbara Sibley — Chef-Owner of La Palapa — will be teaching on Wednesday, May 19 from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM EST. This is Barbara’s first class at De Gustibus and she will be demonstrating some of the authentic Mexican dishes she is known for.


Chef Bio:
As an authority on authentic Mexican cuisine, chef-author Barbara Sibley has appeared on television shows such as CBS Sunday, Chopped, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,  and NY1 en Español. Born and raised in Mexico City, she began her New York culinary career at the age of 17 by working at La Tulipe, a New York Times Three Star French restaurant. In 2000, she opened La Palapa Cocina Mexicana in St. Mark’s Place to showcase her expertise and passion for traditional Mexican recipes and authentic ingredients. Since then, she has also opened La Palapa Taco Bar at Gotham West Market for takeout/delivery/outdoor dining and co-authored the cookbook Antojitos: Festive and Flavorful Mexican Appetizers.

In this class, Barara will combine a five-course authentic Mexican meal with her legendary sangria.  

Experience #1: In-person at De Gustibus (class limited to 24 guests)
An intimate live event inside our state-of-the-art classroom and studio.
$115 + NY sales tax per person

  • Demonstration and tasting of the five-course menu with an amuse bouche

Safety protocols:

  • Doors open 15 minutes prior to class time; you will be greeted by one of our team members who will lead you to your assigned table
  • Assigned tables, based on party size
  • Temperature check upon arrival
  • Masks required for all guests when entering the school and leaving your seat when using the facilities
  • Both chef and staff are required to have daily health screenings
  • Staff required to wear masks throughout the class
  • Tables and chairs are sanitized prior to arrival
  • Bathrooms will be sanitized every 30 minutes


Experience #2: Virtual Class with Food Delivery** 
For those who prefer to view and dine from the comfort of your home. 
$100 + NY sales tax per person + delivery fee

What's included:

  • Your five-course meal will be delivered fully prepared; reheating/prep instructions to come from the chef throughout the video class and noted in your recipes
  • Live demonstration on Zoom
  • PDF of the recipe booklet
  • Bottled S.Pellegrino® Sparkling Natural Mineral Water
  • Package of Lavazza coffee
  • You will receive an email with the link and recipes 24 hours prior to the class


Your meal will be delivered either the evening before or the day of your class, by our VIP Concierge service, Haute Kitchen

A representative will email you the day before your delivery for confirmation, including verification of your address and contact information. A text message will be sent a few minutes prior to arrival, and after your delivery has been dropped. 

It's imperative that you provide De Gustibus with a mobile number to ensure direct contact on delivery.  Any issues or concerns with your delivery, please contact Ops@Haute.Kitchen or reply to their email and/or text directly.

Delivery fees are extra and based on your zip code.
