WHO: David Shim is executive chef and partner of Cote. The restaurant is America's first and only Michelin-starred Korean steakhouse.

ABOUT: A Seoul native, Shim was on a track to become a professional soccer player before his passion for the culinary arts ultimately took center stage. He began his culinary career as a line cook at Gramercy Tavern before stints as Chef Tournant at Veritas, master cook at L’atelier de Joël Robuchon at the Four Seasons Hotel, and executive chef of Kristabelli. After working as chef de cuisine for M. Wells Steakhouse, Shim was approached by Simon Kim to open his dream Korean steakhouse, where he now runs his Michelin-starred kitchen with the studied intensity of a center-back. He has been listed in the "13 Under-the-Radar Chefs’" by Zagat, and named "Hottest Male Chef of the Season" by Gotham magazine.

Over the past 40 years, City Harvest has rescued and distributed over one billion pounds of food for our neighbors across the five boroughs who are struggling to put meals on the table. The organization also provides nutrition education, strengthens local food systems, advocates for anti-hunger policies, and connects volunteers with opportunities to help their neighbors. Both Chef Shim and De Gustibus Owner-CEO Sal Rizzo are proud members of the City Harvest Food Council.
