Matt Abdoo, the chef-owner of Pig Beach BBQ, will showcase his world championship-winning BBQ skills and reveal how he draws on his stellar formal culinary background to create recipes inspired by his Italian-American-Lebanese upbringing.  

Before Matt Abdoo became a BBQ star, he had received tremendous critical praise - including a 4-star review from The New York Times and the Relais & Chateaux distinction while he was chef de cuisine at Del Posto.

Abdoo was born in a small upstate New York town to an Italian-American-Lebanese family. His first cooking lessons began in his grandmother’s kitchen rolling meatballs and making homemade pasta. With dreams of owning his own restaurant someday, he received a business degree before attending the Culinary Institute of America.

He completed his culinary externship at Pigalle in Boston with chef Marc Orfaly, apprenticed at Lupa, and moved to New York City to join the team at Del Posto.  Abdoo then bonded with Del Posto investor Rob Shawger over their love of BBQ. And in 2015, they entered their first World Series of BBQ Competition in Memphis and placed 1st in Poultry and 2nd in Whole Hog. That summer, they opened the Pig Beach BBQ as a pop-up. It was such a success that in 2016, Matt left Del Posto to run Pig Beach BBQ permanently in Brooklyn and that year won Eater’s “Best Burger.” They'll soon be opening Pig Beach BBQ Florida.

Abdoo is also a frequent guest chef on cooking shows, having appeared on The Today Show, The Chew, The Doctor Oz Show, and Michael Symon’s Throwdown.

Safety protocols:

  • We follow New York City law and ask to see proof of vaccination upon entering the school. This is for the safety of our staff, chefs, and fellow guests like you 
  • Doors open 15 minutes prior to class time; you will be greeted by one of our team members who will lead you to your assigned seat
  • Assigned seats, based on party size
  • Masks required for all guests when entering the school and leaving your seat when using the facilities
  • Staff required to wear masks throughout the class
  • Tables and chairs are sanitized prior to arrival
  • The bathroom will be sanitized periodically throughout the event
