WHO: Jay Kumar is chef-owner of Lore, a Park Slope restaurant.
ABOUT: Chef Kumar was born in Mangalore, India, spent his formative years in Oman, and moved to Switzerland where he studied hotel and restaurant management at the EHL Swiss School of Tourism & Hospitality. He opened his first restaurant Jay’s in Basel in 2000 and built a reputation for the depth and complexity of his progressive Indian cuisine. It was a mainstay for Art Basel gallery owners, international artists, and movers and shakers in the Swiss luxury watch world. He then moved to Brooklyn where he and his new bride opened Lore on a historic corner in Park Slope just before Valentine’s Day 2022. Kumar’s cuisine begins with local ingredients from farms in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and New York’s Hudson Valley — but cascades into the world through culinary storytelling informed by a lifetime of international experiences.
WHAT: Kumar will demonstrate how he uses locally sourced ingredients to span the globe with his internationally inspired dishes. Eater's Robert Sietsema described the cuisine as "Indo-Swiss-British, with some Middle Eastern influences thrown in."
