Pull up a chair, grab a glass and take a personal tour of 21 Italian wines with experts Victor Rallo, Jr. and Anthony Verdoni. ----------------------- Italian wine is the culture and history of Italy in a bottle. In Italy, wine is not a cocktail, it is a vital part of every meal. Italian wine needs food. This harmony is my passion. I have been in the Italian wine and food business my entire life. It is what I truly love. Today, I travel to Italy six to eight times per year and write about, photograph, blog, drink, and eat all things Italian. In February of 2012, I released my first book, Napoleon Wasn't Exiled: A Wine and Travel Journal. After writing this book I wanted to write another, I wanted to bring more of Italy to the American public. For this new book, I enlisted the help of my friend and mentor, Anthony Verdoni, perhaps one of the most knowledgeable people on the planet when it comes to Italian wine. Our goal was simple: choose 21 wines we encountered on our journeys through Italy which left a lasting impression in our minds and on our palates. The book sets the wines up in the order we would taste them. The order was sparking first, then the whites, and finally the red wines. Others may disagree with our lineup, or the order we aligned them but that's part of what makes wine so great. It is subjective in every sense of the word. In this book we briefly describe each winery, followed by a dialogue between Tony and me as we taste each wine. This is how we taste wines for my restaurants and website. My hope is that when you read this book, you will feel as if you are sitting right next to us at the tasting. The photos on the other hand are intended to transport you to the vineyards and cellars by putting you into the very hands of the great people who crafted these wines. - Victor Rallo Jr.
